24 Month Well Child Visit

On Wednesday, October 10th, Isaac and Elliott had their 24-month well-child visit with their new pediatrician, Dr. Paula Wells.  After Dr. Parrott left the clinic, we chose Dr. Wells to be our new primary.  Since the boys have seen her before, she is technically not new to us, but this was their first official visit under her primary care.  We all really like her!  She is also a fellow parent of twins so she can provide some useful twin parenting advice, too!

Typically, we have all attended well-child visits as it is easier to manage if we are 1:1, parent to boy.  However, Bob unfortunately had a workshop, and could not attend this visit.  I was nervous to take the boys by myself, knowing the visit would end in shots, but they both did surprisingly well!  They started out in the stroller and both were very cooperative for Ms. Mary to measure their head circumference.

Neither Isaac or Elliott ever liked to sit on the scale.  Since they are now two years old, they could stand on the big scale.  Both walked right up and stood on it like pros!  Both enjoyed standing to have their height measured, too!  I was amazed at their cooperation and patience!

Isaac's 24-month stats
Weight:  28.6 pounds
Length:  34.5 inches
Head circumference: 50 centimeters

Elliott's 24-month stats
Weight: 29.4 pounds
Height: 34 inches
Head circumference: 49.5 centimeters

After the measurements, we had to wait a few minutes in the exam room.  Elliott read one of their new books while Isaac looked around.  Again, both were very patient and cooperative!  They did eventually want to get out of the stroller.  After investigating the exam table thoroughly, we tore some of the exam paper off so the boys could color while Dr. Wells and I talked about their development.  Both are doing great and right on target as to where they should be, with the exception of consistently eating a variety of foods.  But, as the doctor stated, very few two year olds eat a variety of foods consistently.

Don't they look like toddlers now?  So long!

Before shots, we commemorated our first visit with Dr. Wells by taking a photo.  Isaac was preoccupied with kicking the exam table while Elliott was distracted by an airplane book, but Dr. Wells looks fantastic!

I am happy to report that shots were not nearly as bad as I had anticipated.  Both boys did cry but stopped very quickly afterwards.  Ms. Mary made the process easy and within seconds both Isaac and Elliott were all smiles again!

Overall, it was a great check-up!  Dr. Wells said we are good until the boys are three years old...and then she laughed!  Silly Dr. Wells, she knows the Jewell boys cannot stay away from the clinic for an entire year!
