So Long Pacifiers

We knew it was time, but after Elliott and Isaac's well-child visit with Dr. Wells, we formulated a plan...time to part ways with the pacifier!  This may not seem like an important post to most, but I have been nervous about post-pacifier life--how long would the bedtime routine take, would they begin waking up again throughout the night, what other ways could comfort be provided, etc.  They have used pacifiers only at nap and bed times since their first birthday.  On October 11th, they slept with pacifiers for the last time!  As much as I was ready to see the pacifiers disappear, I have always loved seeing them smile around the pacifier.  I don't know why, it is just a sweet expression.  I also like to hear them say "paci", but I'm sure they will come up with something that sounds even more cute!

As always, I wanted one last picture to mark the occasion.  As always, Elliott and Isaac did not want to cooperate.  Daddy to the rescue with the tickle monster!

October 12th, the last morning Elliott and Isaac woke up with paci's in their mouths...

Before leaving for school, we asked them to throw away their pacifiers.  They did so very willingly!

We allowed them to use their "Wubbas" to and from school.  They have always loved those little critters!

After a full day at daycare, the boys discovered "Night Night Bears" had been left in place of their pacifiers.  Elliott and Isaac found Night Night Bears to be lots of fun and a fine substitute until the lights went out and the pacifiers did not return upon repeated request!

After reminders of throwing the pacifiers away earlier in the day, Elliott gave up and went to sleep fairly quickly.  Isaac cried hard for nearly an hour, repeatedly asking for paci.  When he finally fell asleep, I think he was so exhausted he no longer had the energy to ask!  Surprisingly, they both slept through the night and we had no requests.  Saturday was much easier, but Sunday was a little more rough.  After a brief relapse in pacifier use during naps at daycare on Monday, I am very happy to say the Jewell boys are officially pacifier-free!  Neither have requested their paci's in over a week!  Now, we have moved on to the stage of sleeping with multiple stuffed animals!

Overall, Operation Good-bye Paci was a success and much easier than ever anticipated!
